Cambodia's Culture and how it has evolved of the years.
Cambodia has been inhabited since before first century BC, when trade begun with China, especially the coastal kingdoms. Cambodia still has strong ties to China and its neighbours Thailand and Laos. Many of the ancient structures in Cambodia have a similar style to those in Thailand and Laos, Thailand especially. For a while Cambodia was very strong in it’s kingdoms but soon lost power with the arrival of the Europeans, and began to fight amongst itself.
Cambodia is a country rich with history and culture. Cambodia’s current day culture is still rooted in it’s 1st and 6th century form, known as Funan which is the oldest Idianized state in the of Southeast of china. The main elements of this culture are all evolved from the first kingdom of Khmer (Funan), which is still a Nationality of Cambodia. The culture of Cambodia has grown beyond its border with some of its key dishes and clothing styles crossing to countries like Laos and Thailand.
The people of Cambodia come from all different walks of life and due to this the culture of Cambodia is very diverse. With different religions and people from different countries living in the same place.
The nature of Cambodia’s culture is based off it’s very traditional monarchy ways. Cambodians have huge amounts of respect for their King and Queen and are consistently there to support and engage in whatever the King and Queen say. When a past King or Queen dies, the whole country grieves and they have processions and funerals for them all over the country to show how devoted they are to the King or Queen who had passed.
Celebration in Cambodia is a big traditional cultural element that sets Cambodia apart from its neighbouring countries. Cambodia celebrates almost all the time. They have large and small celebrations to bring in the new year, celebrate a new child, birthdays, weddings and many more. It is also part of their culture to invite their whole neighbourhood around which is also similar to smaller provinces and villages of China.
